Best Beaches between Porto Cesareo and Gallipoli: Guide to the Salento Paradise

If you're looking for crystal-clear water and white sandy beaches like in the Tropics, you don't need to fly far. The stretch of Ionian coast from San Pietro in Bevagna to Gallipoli, passing through the heart of Porto Cesareo, offers some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe.

Here is a selection of unmissable spots and average driving times from Porto Cesareo.

1. San Pietro in Bevagna (Manduria)

Located to the north, this beach is famous for the Chidro river flowing into the sea and for the "Sarcofagi del Re", underwater archaeological remains just a few metres from the shore. It's a wild area with large stretches of free beach.

Time from Porto Cesareo: 25 min

2. Punta Prosciutto

Often called the "Caribbean of Salento", it boasts towering dunes and very shallow water for dozens of metres. A must for anyone who loves transparent water and fine sand.

Time from Porto Cesareo: 15 min

3. Torre Lapillo

One of the most sheltered bays and a favourite with families. Here you'll find both equipped beach facilities and free stretches. The clarity of the water by the 16th-century tower is simply magical.

Time from Porto Cesareo: 5-8 min

4. Porto Cesareo (Town beach and Isola dei Conigli)

Right in front of the town you'll find iconic beach clubs. With a short boat trip (or a swim for the more experienced), you can reach Isola dei Conigli, an unspoilt nature reserve.

Time: 0 min (if you're staying in the centre)

5. Sant'Isidoro

A bay sheltered by a small island that keeps the sea as flat as a millpond, perfect for total relaxation or for families with young children.

Time from Porto Cesareo: 10 min

6. Porto Selvaggio Natural Park (Nardò)

Forget sand: here you'll find a dense pine forest leading down to a pebble bay and spring water (very cold!). Ideal for trekking and snorkelling.

Time from Porto Cesareo: 20 min

7. Santa Maria al Bagno and Santa Caterina

Two gems set in the rock. Santa Maria al Bagno has a delightful small beach right in the centre, while Santa Caterina is famous for its breathtaking sunsets and cliff diving.

Time from Porto Cesareo: 25 min

8. Gallipoli (Baia Verde and Rivabella)

As you reach Gallipoli, the coast becomes sandy and wide again. Baia Verde is the heart of the nightlife and big beach clubs, while Rivabella offers shallow waters and refreshing pine woods.

Time from Porto Cesareo: 35 min
